what Cookie and Awol have been doing

awol — Thu, 01/15/2009 - 10:20

Hey just wanted to let you guys know since the activation that we got in October. We left for Des Moines for about a month and trained there. The training there was.... well it was training to say the least. We learned how to walk and find places on a map. Since some of you don’t know what we are trained to do, I will tell you we are trained to drive on roads that are there at no time are we allowed getting off the road and go behaving it through central Baghdad. So it's safe to say that whole days’ training was pretty much worthless. Actually to tell you the truth almost all the training in my eyes was worthless there. I will say that the shooting qualification and some other training is a good idea but at this point we are starting to be more infantry than transportation. So now we are going to call ourselves Infantrans.
From Des Moines we then went to Ft. Bliss, TX. That was fun, I now have no respect for that state it is supposed to be warm there and it was freaking cold. By the way kids don’t mess with Texas (it’s not nice to make fun of retards). We had actually more relevant training there we actually got to drive a HETT there. For those of you that don’t know what that is it’s located on this link. http://www.oshkoshdefense.com/graphics/defense/US-HET-1_large.jpg We are also trained on being combat medics meaning they gave Cookie and I sharp needles and told us to poke people in the arms until we got it right. By the way saline infusion through needle is the best way to get over a hangover. We also were given a certain bandage that can stop arterial bleeding. We even were trained on rollovers with a Humvve that actually flips over about 3 times then they tell us to get out. The rest of training is ok but for the most part very unproductive and not really needed to be talked about.
From Bliss we got a flight to Kuwait. That flight is the worst friggen thing. It’s like what Lewis black said if you want to experience it put a vice on your head for 22 hrs sleep for about 3 eat food then repeat and you can’t move in your chair plus there needs to be a chair just close enough that your knees are not touching it but angled to where you can t bring your feet up. We then land in Kuwait and we proceed to find our new home in Camp Arfjan Kuwait. Cookie was then selected to guard weapons on base for the next 9 months. While I was directed to go into Iraq and perform missions. I am at this point doing my best to get a sweet gig like Cookie.
We are both in good health and good spirits and we wish you all good luck on the school year. We are so far looking at a mid to late October arrival back into the states. We are also planning on coming down to CF that day we get back to get wasted with you guys, that and get Pablo’s.
